Yau Tsim Police District officers issued 1,047 fixed penalty tickets and arrested a 30-year-old non-Chinese man for multiple traffic offenses during a day-long operation targeting illegal parking blackspots on Tuesday.
Codenamed "MOVESKY," the joint operation with West Kowloon Traffic Unit also resulted in the towing of six vehicles that were causing serious traffic obstruction. The arrested suspect faces charges including "driving without a license," "operating an unregistered vehicle," "driving without third-party insurance," and "riding a motorcycle without an approved protective helmet."
The man has been released on bail pending further investigation and must report back to police in mid-September.
According to police statistics, Yau Tsim District issued 139,698 fixed penalty notices and recorded 1,011 suspected traffic violations between January and July this year. The operation aims to curb dangerous driving behaviors that could lead to accidents.
"Yau Tsim Police will maintain strict enforcement to ensure traffic flow and enhance road safety awareness," a police spokesperson said, urging drivers to comply with traffic regulations and avoid illegal parking for convenience.
