Hong Kong’s wushu star Lydia Sham Hui-yu delivered a stunning performance at the Chengdu World Games, clinching gold in the women’s Changquan, Jianshu, and Qiangshu all-around event.
The 25-year-old made an immediate impression on Friday, taking the early lead in Changquan while wearing a striking white-and-green competition suit featuring panda and bamboo motifs. Her flawless execution earned her 9.750 points—the highest score in the discipline.
After a day's rest, Sham returned to the mat this morning for the Qiangshu event, this time sporting a pink uniform adorned with butterfly patterns. She matched her opening performance with another 9.750 score to maintain her overall lead.
The Hong Kong athlete saved her best for last in the Jianshu event later that evening, posting a competition-high 9.760 points to finish with a combined total of 29.260 points—just 0.071 points ahead of Malaysia's silver medalist. Japan's competitor rounded out the podium with bronze.
The wushu athlete's victory marks Hong Kong’s third gold medal at this year’s competition, surpassing the team’s total from the previous edition of the Games.
