Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP) celebrated the grand opening of its highly anticipated Playfield 5 on Friday, marking a significant addition to the city's family entertainment offerings.
The vibrant opening ceremony attracted over a hundred guests, including community partners, government officials, and enthusiastic families eager to experience the new facilities firsthand.
Distinguished guests officiating the ceremony were joined by Kai Tak Sports Park's leadership team.
In his opening remarks, CEO John Sharkey highlighted the park's broader mission, stating that Kai Tak Sports Park aims to be more than just a sports venue by committing to creating spaces that nurture children's health, sparking their imagination, and supporting their joyful development.
He described Playfield 5 as embodying this vision with its creative design that encourages physical activity, social interaction, and learning through play.
Spanning an impressive 4,300 square meters, the playground draws inspiration from Song Dynasty salt fields while incorporating traditional Chinese philosophy through its five themed zones based on the elements of Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth.
This unique concept offers children a multi-sensory experience that blends cultural education with physical play.
A standout feature of the new facility is its commitment to inclusivity. The playland includes specially designed accessible features such as adaptive sandpits and trampolines, ensuring that children of all abilities can enjoy the space together.
Open daily from 9am to 9pm with free admission, the playground is poised to become a popular destination for families across Hong Kong.
The opening day festivities featured magical entertainment with clown performances and interactive art workshops that delighted both children and parents.
Early visitors praised the facility, with children excited by the innovative play structures and parents appreciating the thoughtful combination of fun and educational elements.
Coinciding with the playland opening, Kai Tak Sports Park also announced the completion of its new outdoor sports zone, North Garden.
The area already features covered hard courts and beach volleyball facilities that opened in July, with multipurpose tennis courts scheduled for completion later this quarter.
These additions will be available for booking by members of the Friends of KTSP program, further expanding the venue's recreational offerings.

Despite the sweltering summer heat, parents enthusiastically brought their children to be among the first to experience the newly opened playground.
Young visitors praised the diverse facilities, with many particularly drawn to the challenging rock-climbing wall, expressing hopes to visit several times weekly.
A parent from Kowloon noted the playground's spacious layout surpasses other local parks, highlighting the innovative double-decker play structures that accommodate more children simultaneously.
Many appreciated the shaded areas providing relief from the sun, while others celebrated the rare inclusion of water play features in an urban park setting.
Several parents commended the playground's thoughtful design, emphasizing how the combination of covered areas and interactive water elements creates a more comfortable summer play environment.
