To offer a better experience for residents travelling under the Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles, the Transport Department (TD) announced that no bookings are needed for participants on every Tuesday and Wednesday starting from September 1, with designated days excluded.
Meanwhile, reservations will still be necessary on specific dates, including public holidays in Hong Kong or Mainland China, the day before those holidays, toll-free days on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB), and other dates specified by the authorities.
The department indicated that the dates for which reservations are not needed over the next six months will be updated on the first calendar day of each month on the Specified Dates Booking System for applicants' reference.
Additionally, existing arrangements for the reservation system will remain unchanged, with reservations opening for specified dates in the following month starting from the 15th calendar day of each month.
The department also advised travellers to complete reservations through the system by noon before their travel date if they wish to travel during the reserved time slot.
To ensure the smooth operation of the scheme, the department stressed that any vehicle found travelling on designated days without prior reservation, or not travelling during their reserved time slot, will face strict penalties, ranging from the suspension of their booking eligibility, revocation of their Closed Road Permits(CRP), and a suspension of the CRP holder’s eligibility on reapplying for the scheme.
The scheme allows eligible vehicles from Hong Kong to travel between the HZMB without needing to obtain regular quotas, facilitating residents' ability to drive to Guangdong for business, family visits, or leisure on a short-term basis.
It is stated that both the Guangdong and Hong Kong governments will closely monitor the scheme's operations and collaborate to promptly review and enhance its arrangements.
