Amber rainstorm warning in force as heavy downpours soak city

The Hong Kong Observatory issued an Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal at 10.25am Monday as heavy rains drenched the city.

Under the influence of an active southwest monsoon, multiple areas across Hong Kong recorded over 30 millimeters of rainfall this morning, with some parts of Kowloon and the eastern New Territories experiencing more than 70 millimeters.

The observatory initially raised the Amber rainstorm warning at 6.30am, which remained in effect for two and a half hours before being canceled. However, just an hour and a half later, the warning was reissued as downpours returned.

The observatory also warned that the persistent rainfall may lead to flooding in low-lying areas, urging residents to stay alert for potential disruptions to traffic and outdoor activities. 

The public was advised to monitor weather updates and take necessary precautions.
