The Kai Tak Sports Park is expected to achieve "dual home venues" for Hong Kong's tennis community, fostering a push for more tennis events and tournaments to be held in the city.
The Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) is scheduled to take place at Kai Tak Arena from October 14 to October 15, with 2024 UTS London Grand Final champion Alex de Minaur -- also the top-ranked Australian player -- to compete with UTS Oslo champion Andrey Rublev, number one Chinese player Zhang Zhizhen, and others.
Lynn Zhang Ling, the captain of the Hong Kong women's tennis team, highlighted that several financial hubs have established multiple "home venues" for tennis events. She cited London as an example, noting its capability to host the Wimbledon Championships and the ATP Finals at world-class venues such as the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and the O2 Arena.
Zhang added that Hong Kong has hosted the WTA250 and ATP250 competitions in Victoria Park, which is an iconic and traditional venue for tennis competitions. In addition, the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open 2024 held in the Park has been awarded the "WTA 250 International Tournament of the Year."
Zhang believed that the new courts at Kai Tak Sports Park would attract more international tennis tournaments to take place in Hong Kong.
