The Hong Kong delegation made a proud appearance at the opening ceremony of the 32nd FISU World University Games, held in Duisburg, Germany.
The 11-day event, featuring over 9,200 athletes from more than 150 countries and regions, will see 75 Hong Kong athletes compete across 10 sports.
Olympic veterans lead Hong Kong’s charge
Hong Kong’s 75-member team will compete in 10 sports, with flag bearers Lo Wai-fung in taekwondo and Daphne Chan Nok-sze in fencing, both of whom have experience from the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Hong Kong enjoyed a standout performance at the last edition in Chengdu, securing an impressive 4 gold, 1 silver, and 7 bronze medals.
Team China leads with high hopes
The Chinese delegation, led by flag-bearers women's 3x3 basketballer Liu Bei and male shuttler Cui Hechen, has sent over 200 athletes to compete in 14 sports.
China dominated the previous edition in Chengdu, topping both the gold and overall medal tallies. This year, the team aims to continue its strong performance.
Multi-city competition in Rhine-Ruhr Region
The biennial World University Games, formerly known as the Universiade, is being held across five cities in Germany’s Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region, with Berlin hosting additional events. The competition runs from July 16 to 27, offering Hong Kong athletes a chance to test themselves against the world’s best university-level talent.
