The Hong Kong Observatory announced that the Standby Signal No. 1 will remain in force for the entire day as Severe Tropical Storm Danas continues to hover over the northeastern South China Sea.
As of 1pm, Danas was positioned approximately 400 kilometers east-southeast of Hong Kong, moving slowly northward while gradually intensifying.
The storm is expected to linger about 400 kilometers southeast of Hong Kong through tomorrow morning (July 6) before accelerating northeast toward the Taiwan Strait.
With Danas' relatively compact circulation, the Observatory indicated strong winds are unlikely to affect Hong Kong significantly unless the storm intensifies dramatically and shifts closer to the Pearl River Estuary. The chance of issuing higher tropical cyclone warning signals remains low.
Despite the distant storm, Hong Kong is experiencing extreme heat today, with temperatures soaring to 35 degrees Celsius or above across many areas.
The scorching conditions are triggering sporadic showers and squally thunderstorms. Similar sweltering weather is forecast to persist in the coming days.
Mariners and beachgoers are cautioned about swells in coastal waters. The public is advised to avoid shorelines, refrain from water sports activities, and monitor the Observatory's latest weather bulletins for updates.
