Secretary for Housing Winnie Ho Wing-yin has been actively promoting investment opportunities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) during her European tour, with Lisbon being the latest stop.
At a business luncheon co-hosted by Hong Kong’s GBA Development Office and the Brussels Economic and Trade Office, Ho highlighted the significant role of Hong Kong as a "super connector" and "super value-adder" in linking mainland China with global markets, particularly in sectors such as construction, information technology, and professional services.
The event was attended by 130 individuals, including representatives from 80 Portuguese companies and 17 Hong Kong firms.
Ho outlined Hong Kong’s ambitious housing strategy, which aims to deliver 308,000 public housing units over the next ten years.
She emphasized the city’s adoption of cutting-edge construction methods, including Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) and robotic building techniques, and the acceleration of Light Public Housing projects that leverage smart technologies.
During her visit, Ho toured Lisbon’s EntreCampos development, a mixed-use project that incorporates social housing and utilizes Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology.
She also inspected a nearby insurance company headquarters equipped with advanced smart energy systems, drawing comparisons to Hong Kong’s own green housing initiatives, including BEAM Plus Gold-certified developments.
Ho remarked on the transformation in the future of public housing, from factory-built modular units to AI-driven estate management, and extended an invitation to Portuguese businesses to explore collaborative opportunities within the GBA framework.
Following her engagements in Lisbon, Ho departed for Barcelona to continue her European tour.
