A beloved lunch destination for Central office workers, "can.teen," has shuttered its Century Square branch on June 27, marking the brand's second closure in two months.
Operated by Maxim's Group, the eatery has long served the Central business district with affordable Asian-style meals, including siu mei (roasted meat rice) and Hainanese chicken rice, priced between HK$50 and HK$70.
In a Facebook announcement last week, the restaurant attributed the Century Square closure to lease expiration, with operations ceasing at 6pm on June 27.
The social media post thanked loyal customers for their support and encouraged diners to visit its remaining Cheung Kong Centre branch for signature dishes like Hainanese chicken rice and hot milk tea.
This follows the May closure of its Prince's Building location, which had operated since 2016, due to mall renovations and lease issues.
Down to three branches: A blow to central workers
The closures have dismayed Central office workers, who lament the dwindling affordable lunch options in the area.
Regulars shared nostalgic memories online, with some calling it "the end of an era" and jokingly suggesting they might need to start packing lunches.
With these latest closures, "can.teen" now operates just three locations: Cheung Kong Center and Admiralty Centre in Central, plus its Hong Kong International Airport branch.
