Starting this Thursday, Hong Kong's elderly residents will gain access to healthcare services at two additional Zhuhai hospitals under the expanded Elderly Health Care Voucher Greater Bay Area Pilot Scheme.
The latest extension to Zhuhai marks another step in integrating cross-border medical services within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).
The newly included medical facilities—the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and Zhuhai People's Hospital—will accept Hong Kong's elderly healthcare vouchers for outpatient services across multiple specialties.
This expansion brings the total number of participating GBA healthcare providers to 11, benefiting over 1.78 million eligible Hong Kong seniors.
The Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and Zhuhai People's Hospital will offer voucher-eligible services in 16 and 15 designated departments, respectively, covering essential specialties including internal medicine, surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, and ophthalmology.
This development provides Hong Kong's aging population with more options for affordable, quality healthcare across the border.
The scheme maintains its flexible features, allowing spouses to pool their vouchers and including participation in the Elderly Health Care Vouchers Pilot Reward Scheme at the new locations.
