A 45-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for shoplifting in To Kwa Wan, with sources indicating that the arrestee is singer Tommy Yuen Man-on.
The Kowloon City Police District conducted an anti-crime patrol in the area of Ma Tau Kok Road at around 5pm, and intercepted a man with suspicious behavior.
It was learned that he arrestee is Tommy Yuen Man-on, who allegedly stole several bottles of beverages, assorted candies, and biscuits from a Wellcome supermarket in To Kwa Wan, with an estimated value of HK$100.
It has been reported that the credit card in his possession belonged to one of his friends. Authorities have contacted the card owner to arrange for its retrieval at the police station.
The case is still under investigation.
Yuen, a singer-activist, was sentenced to 26 months in prison in 2023 after pleading guilty to sedition and laundering more than HK$710,000 raised through crowdfunding.
The former member of the disbanded Cantopop group E-kids was charged with posting hateful comments on his social media pages to celebrate the death of a police officer and lampooning a magistrate suffering from a heart condition.
He was also accused of working with his wife to invent the story of a 19-year-old female protester facing rioting charges to gain sympathy and solicit donations by selling cookies and pineapple.
