The central government’s Office for Safeguarding National Security and the city’s national security police conducted their first joint operation on Thursday, including raiding suspects’ homes and an organization’s Kwai Chung office, as well as confiscating their travel documents.
In a statement, the police said the case—involving six persons and an organization—were suspected of having “colluded with foreign forces or with external elements to endanger national security” between November 2020 and June 2024.
The central government’s Office for Safeguarding National Security, with the approval from the office’s director, requested assistance and support from the police’s national security department, including arranging interviews with the suspects involved in the case.
Police’s national security officers, with court-issued warrants, also searched the six suspects’ homes and the office of the organization involved in the case in a commercial building in Kwai Chung district and seized exhibits, including bank documents and electronic devices, for further investigation.
Officers also required the suspects to surrender their travel documents by notices issued by the court.
“The case is still under investigation, and the national security department will continue to provide assistance and support to the Office for Safeguarding National Security in accordance with the law,” the police said.
