The project will involve the demolition of Yin Chee Lau and Hay Cheuk Lau, which were built nearly six decades ago, according to Yeung Chin-pang, Assistant Director (Property Management) of the HKHS.
In a radio program on Thursday, Yeung noted that the phased redevelopment will affect approximately 680 households, who are expected to begin relocating in the second half of 2026.
The resettlement process is anticipated to be completed by the second half of 2027, while the complete redevelopment of the two buildings is expected to be completed by 2035, he added.
The authorities stated that the relocation aims to meet residents' demand by resettling them within nearby neighborhoods, while providing cash subsidies for elderly residents who choose to relocate to cities in the Greater Bay Area.
Lawmaker Wilson Or Chong-shing also mentioned on the same program that residents expressed mixed feelings about the relocation arrangements.
While many are pleased with the redevelopment plan, especially the unexpected offer of up to eight relocation options, Or noted that some residents feel reluctant to leave behind their neighborhood ties
