A transport worker was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods connected to the armed robbery at Hang Seng Bank in Sha Tin after surrendering himself to police on Wednesday (June 4).
The incident occurred on Monday when a 49-year-old local man, surnamed Chow, allegedly held a female bank employee at knifepoint and fled with HK$382,000 in local and foreign currencies.
It is understood that the latest arrestee, surnamed Lau, was acquainted with the knife-wielding suspect. Investigation revealed that Lau received HK$100,000 of the stolen funds from Chow, with HK$80,100 recovered during Lau's surrender.
The arrest of the 47-year-old Lau has brought the total number of arrestees in the case to three individuals. A 34-year-old woman, surnamed Lai and believed to be Chow's girlfriend, was also arrested on suspicion of aiding Chow's escape.
Further investigations suggest that Chow may also be linked to another burglary case involving a luxury home on Clear Water Bay Road, which occurred on the same afternoon as the bank robbery.
