Customs will introduce a redesigned uniform for uniformed personnel and inspection officers, replacing the existing attire that has been in use for over 30 years.
Officers will start wearing the new uniforms -- white shirts and dark green trousers complemented by blue-green waterproof short jackets -- in the middle of the year, announced by Chan Tsz-tat, the Commissioner of Customs and Excise.
The uniforms will feature an all-weather design, eliminating the need for separate winter and summer attire. He added that the highly breathable fabric is particularly suited to the city's climate.
He stated that the updated design aims to reflect Hong Kong's identity while also reinforcing the authority associated with law enforcement.
Chan emphasized that the replacement is timely, as the previous uniforms had been in use for over 30 years.
Regarding color selection, he explained that green, the Customs' signature color, symbolizes prosperity and vitality while creating a sense of comfort.
Meanwhile, Chan revealed that officers responsible for cargo inspection will gradually transition to blue coveralls uniforms later this year.
He noted that the new uniforms enhance frontline operational efficiency, featuring a pleated knee design for greater mobility, expanded pocket capacity for credentials and notebooks, and advanced breathability for comfort during extended shifts.
In addition, Chan also stressed that the replacement is cost-efficient in the long term, as tailoring will not be required for each officer due to the new season-adaptive design and standardized sizing.
Each officer will receive three sets of uniforms, all procured from local manufacturers through a tender process compliant with World Trade Organization (WTO) standards.
