Netizens welcome Chinese internet cafe giant Wangyu Esports as it opens a new branch in Mong Kok, offering players nine hours of gaming for as low as HK$50.
Located in Golden Era Plaza—once the hub of internet cafes in Hong Kong during the 1980s and 1990s—the branch provides open seating and private rooms for solo players, equipped with high-end computers and snack bar services.
The branch also adopts the same operations model as in the mainland, employing waitresses dressed in sailor suits or other cosplay costumes to deliver food and beverages to the players.
Players in the opening area will be charged HK$15 per hour, while private rooms cost HK$25 per hour. Meanwhile, the overnight package offers nine hours of stay starting at HK$50 and HK$85, respectively.
In response to an inquiry from Sing Tao Headline, the owner revealed plans to open four more branches, with locations currently under review.
Established in 1998, Wangyu Esports has expanded into overseas markets, including the US and Australia, and now operates 1,200 stores globally, serving 40 million players annually.
In addition, the company has launched esports-themed hotels in multiple mainland cities, with rooms fully equipped with gaming setups.
