Wayii Cheng Yi-ki, 27, knows the secret of "smizing" - smiling with the eyes - and that was her secret weapon to win the 2021 Miss Mask Pageant.
Nicknamed "Ho-nam," Cheng beat seven other aspirants in the competition held by ViuTV last Sunday that required contestants to wear masks. The 172-centimeter-tall winner, a model, also took another title home - "best clothing and mask combination." She was rewarded with a total of HK$55,000 in prize money for both titles.
Marie Lime Tsui Sin-ning, 33, nicknamed "Auntie," a make-up artist, and 30-year-old Fung Po-yan, nicknamed "Little one," an internet celebrity, won the second and third places.
Tsui and Fung also took home HK$30,000 and HK$10,000 in prize money each.
Giann Law Pui-chi, 27, also a model, who was not in the last eight of the contest, was awarded for "looking the prettiest without a mask," with HK$5,000 in prize money.
Thirty percent of the contest's results were from voting by netizens, with the rest from celebrity judges - including actor Wong Tak-bun, former Miss Chinese International Pageant Elva Ni Cheng-xi and former Miss Hong Kong Skye Chan Sin-yeung.
