The incident occurred around 4pm on Thursday when the 27-year-old businessman, who was carrying a suitcase containing 5 million euros (approximately HK$42 million) for a virtual currency purchase, was attacked.
The assault took place outside Golden Crown Court on Nathan Road as the businessman was approached by two knife-wielding assailants attempting to snatch his suitcase.
Despite suffering a 10 centimeter cut on his forehead, the victim managed to fend off the attackers, retaining possession of his belongings and forcing the robbers to flee.
Police swiftly responded by examining footage from nearby security cameras, leading to the arrest of four men, aged between 17 and 31, all of Pakistani origin. Among the arrested, two possess Hong Kong identity cards while the others hold temporary permits.
Their occupations vary, with one working as a delivery person and the remaining three are unemployed.
Each played a distinct role in the attempted robbery: two directly engaged in the assault, one acted as a lookout, and another assisted in disposing of personal items.
The victim, who had arrived in Hong Kong just a day before the incident, remains hospitalized due to his injuries, which fortunately did not impair his vision.
The quick action of the police underscores the effectiveness of Hong Kong's surveillance system in maintaining safety and deterring crime in the city.
