This marks the first time Hong Kong has hosted the Asia Championships and Mixed Relay Championships for adult athletes. Additionally, it will serve as the initial internal selection competition for the Hong Kong team in preparation for the National Games.
The course layout for this championship remains largely consistent with the one utilized during the National Games test event earlier in the month, with one modification: the cycling segment will now exclude Golden Bauhinia Square.
The race will commence with a swim at the Central-Wan Chai Waterfront Promenade, followed by a cycling segment around Lung Wo Road and the IFC, and conclude with the running portion at Tamar Park.
Local athletes such as Oscar Coggins, Wong Tsz-to, and Hilda Choi Yan-yin will compete against international contenders from 13 Asian countries and regions.
Choi is optimistic about her chances at the championship. Having participated in the National Games test event twice last year, she believes this experience has better prepared her and her teammates for the upcoming competition.
"With the additional opportunities to familiarize ourselves with the course, I am hopeful that we stand a great chance to secure a medal at the Asia Championships," said Choi.
