The warning signal was issued by the weather watchdog at 3pm on Saturday, meaning heavy rain has fallen or is expected to fall, exceeding 30 millimetres in an hour, and is likely to continue.
The watchdog, meanwhile, noted that hail was reported at Tai Po at around 3.20pm.
Members of the public are reminded that the rainstorm might cause flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas. The temperatures will fall tonight.
The thunderstorm warning has also been issued and will be in effect until 6pm.
