More wave walls and water barriers will be installed along the coastline of Heng Fa Chuen, one of the areas most affected by rainstorms and typhoons.
According to a social media post by the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD), the 350-meter-long wave wall as well as a 220-meter-long demountable flood barrier will be installed along the coastline.
CEDD said it would form multiple layers of protection for the coastal area and mitigate the impacts of extreme weather.
It was noted that most residents approved the government's proposal during a recent owners' meeting, which followed multiple rounds of consultation.
Meanwhile, the Department has authorized the MTR Corporation to proceed with the projects and complete construction by next year.
Separately, CEDD has identified 26 residential areas with risks of flooding -- including Hang Fa Chuen, Tai O, Yung Shue Wan as well as Tseung Kwan O Waterfront Park etc.
Authorities said measures such as water barrier installations will be implemented in phases to lower the potential impact.
