The police announced on Tuesday the introduction of a temporary cross-harbor taxi stand on Wellington Street as part of a pilot scheme.
This initiative follows the successful implementation of the "Lan Kwai Fong Taxi Ambassadors Scheme," which, since its launch in April last year, has assisted over 60,000 citizens and tourists in hailing taxis at key locations such as Lan Kwai Fong, The Peak, and the Garden Road Tram Stop.
The pilot program is scheduled for the weekends of March 15-16 and March 22-23, with the taxi stand operating from 12.30am to 5am opposite 32 Wellington Street.
During these times, the Hong Kong Taxi Council will collaborate with a non-profit organization to employ youths as taxi ambassadors. These ambassadors will assist passengers by providing taxi information cards that detail the estimated fare, taxi license plate number, and destination.
Moreover, the police will increase their presence in Lan Kwai Fong by continuing patrols, deploying undercover officers to pose as passengers, and utilizing digital video enforcement to deter and address illegal taxi activities.
There will also be efforts to educate tourists on how to recognize illegal taxi practices and encourage them to report any suspicious activities, further ensuring a safe and reliable taxi service in the area.
