On March 3 (Mon), a gas leak led to an explosion in a unit at Mei Tin House, Hing Tin Estate in Lam Tin.
The force of the explosion blew out an air conditioner and window frames, which fell to the ground, while the metal gate of the door was blasted into the corridor.
The 52-year-old male tenant, surnamed Lau, was critically injured but later showed signs of improvement at the United Christian Hospital.
The fire department suspected an unusual situation that led to the leak, prompting an investigation by the Kwun Tong Police District.
The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) discovered that the stove's gas pipe had been loosened, causing the gas to leak.
After further investigation, authorities believed Lau was connected to the incident and arrested him last Friday (Mar 7) in the hospital on suspicion of causing an explosion likely to endanger life or property.
Lau has been released on bail and is required to report to the police in early April.
