The tourism chief for the city stated that Hong Kong embraces "healthy competition" in response to the attention surrounding Singapore being the sole Asian stop for Lady Gaga's concert in May.
Speaking on a radio program on Tuesday, Secretary for Culture, Sports, and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui said it is common for international stars to choose Hong Kong for their performances and concerts, while some might opt for Macau, China, or Singapore instead.
Although Hong Kong offers plenty of event venues, she noted that the city cannot host every star who might want to perform here.
Law added that the situation highlighted the diverse opportunities flourishing in the Asia-Pacific region while expressing confidence in the popularity of Kai Tak Sports Park, which held its grand opening last Saturday (Mar 1).
She emphasized that the Park has communicated with over 200 production companies, and events include Rugby Sevens, the National Games and concerts of Nicholas Tse, Jay Chou Chieh-lun as well as Wayne Lim Jun Jie are scheduled to take place at the Park.
Law added that various activities are still being finalized, with details to be announced soon.
