Train services between Tung Chung and Sunny Bay stations will end two hours early on April 19 at around 11pm for the construction of the Tung Chung Line extension project.
The MTR announced on Monday that the last train from Tung Chung station will depart at 11.01pm on April 19 while the last one from Hong Kong station will set off at 11.07pm on the same night.
Free shuttle buses will be available between Tung Chung and Sunny Bay stations until normal service ends and train services between Hong Kong and Sunny Bay stations will not be affected.
The rail operator is going to install the second turnout on the tracks for changing lines that night, after it completed the first installation on October 26 last year.
“The engineering team will try their best to ensure that the project proceeds smoothly so that Tung Chung Line can resume normal service the next day (Apr 20) and the first train will start service as scheduled,” MTR said in a statement.
The installation is part of the MTR's project to extend the existing Tung Chung Line, which includes building a new Tung Chung East Station between Tung Chung and Sunny Bay stations and constructing a new 1.2-kilometer track connecting the current line to the new station.
It will also extend the line westward, adding a 1.3-km track and a new Tung Chung West station.
Construction work for the project started in May 2023 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2029, which mainly involves cable laying, track rerouting, signaling system adjustment and installation of four turnouts.
MTR earlier said that the installation of all turnouts is expected to be finished by the end of 2027.
