A body was found at 3 pm on January 26 by a couple jogging near the center, located at the base of a tree by the lakeside. Following the discovery, the police closed off the center yesterday (Jan 27), to conduct their investigation.
Law enforcement officers, after an in-depth investigation, including reviewing security camera footage and questioning nearby stores, preliminarily identified the deceased as a 31-year-old man who had entered Hong Kong with a two-way permit on January 21.
A lighter was found next to the body, and police sources stated that the man was alone when he entered the center before the incident occurred.
The body was severely charred from the calves upwards. While suicide is suspected, the exact cause of death is pending a forensic autopsy.
Visitors who came to the center today were met with disappointment as the facility remained closed due to the ongoing police investigation.
