Surgeon Cyrus Tse Tak-yin has been sentenced to a 120-hour community service order after pleading guilty to upskirting a female student during a lecture at the Chinese University a year ago.
At Shatin Magistrates Court on Monday, Magistrate David Chum Yau-fong cited a positive Probation Officer’s Report, suggesting that Tse committed the crime amid excessive stress.
Chum advised Tse to exercise more and refrain from illegal activities in the future.
The 47-year-old surgeon faced one count of voyeurism for upskirting a 19-year-old CUHK student at the Choh-Ming Li Basic Medical Sciences Building around 5 pm on January 27, 2024, while serving as a special lecturer for the medical school.
Tse was accused of using his phone to capture images underneath the victim’s skirt.
The incident was witnessed by another female student, who promptly alerted the victim and discovered the upskirting video on Tse’s mobile phone.
The two students then reported the matter to the police.
After his arrest, Tse remained silent and refused to provide his mobile phone password.
Previously employed in Tuen Mun Hospital’s colorectal surgery department, Tse is now practicing as a private doctor and has been frequently featured in media interviews and TV programs discussing gastrointestinal diseases.
