The weather watchdog advises the public to wear warm clothing and ensure adequate indoor ventilation. They also highlighted the significant wind chill effect on high ground, noting that the felt temperature could be lower than the actual air temperature, which could lead to hypothermia if exposed for prolonged periods.
The HKO urged residents to check on elderly individuals or those with chronic medical conditions who live alone, to ensure they have the necessary assistance.
A cold front moving across the Guangdong coast and an intense winter monsoon are influencing the region's weather. Temperatures in inland Guangdong this morning were about five degrees lower than yesterday.
The forecast for today includes mostly cloudy skies with one or two rain patches initially, becoming progressively colder. Expect moderate to fresh northerly winds, occasionally strong offshore and on high ground.
Minimum temperatures in urban areas are expected to be around 10 to 11 degrees Celsius tomorrow (Jan 27) and Lunar New Year's Eve (Jan 28), with the weather turning fine and very dry.
It will remain cold in the New Territories on the morning of Lunar New Year's Day (Jan 29). The weather will gradually become cloudier with one or two light rain patches in the following days.
