The western section of the East Coast Boardwalk -- measuring 1.1 kilometers -- is set to open on Sunday (Jan 26), connecting the East Coast Park Precinct and the North Point Promenade.
The Boardwalk adopts an overall concept of "Citywave," featuring four thematic sections in the western area, including a shared zone for both pedestrians and cyclists.
It will also include viewing and fishing platforms with tiered seating, allowing residents to relax just about one meter from the water's surface, along with hill-shaped climbing facilities.
Additionally, a movable bridge and a swing bridge will enhance access for nearby residents and allow vessels to enter nearshore waters for maintenance and emergency rescue.
Typically, each bridge remains closed to allow pedestrians to pass through, and it only takes approximately two minutes to open or rotate if a vessel needs to enter the nearby waters.
As for the Eastern Section of the Boardwalk that connects North Point Promenade and Quarry Bay, the government aims to open to the public by the end of 2025.
