Tradition finds a modern voice in the “FLASH! Palace Museum - A Pop-Up Digital Experience” exhibition underway at Tai Kwun, which highlights the rich culture of the former Forbidden City in Beijing with the help of digital technology. The exhibition is supported by The Hong Kong Jockey Club, exclusively sponsored by the Institute of Philanthropy (IoP) and organised by the Palace Museum, in partnership with Tai Kwun.
Running until 31 January, the exhibition is one of the activities celebrating the Club’s 140th anniversary and coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Palace Museum. Key highlights include “Four Seasons at the Palace Museum”, which uses digital technology to showcase the beauty of the Gate of Imperial Supremacy across all four seasons. Another feature, “Impression of the Corner Tower,” employs virtual reality to vividly recreate the construction of the Forbidden City’s four corner towers, emphasising their unique architectural design.
In May 2024 the Club and the IoP signed a Memorandum of Cooperation titled “Promotion of Chinese Culture and Arts Tech Talent Development in the Mainland and Hong Kong” with the Palace Museum. The IoP donated approximately HK$440 million for the promotion of Chinese culture and values both locally and globally, while also supporting talent development in the arts technology and cultural sectors. A key aspect of this five-year collaboration includes the restoration and conversion of the historic Chengqiangong court building into “The Palace Museum Hong Kong Cultural Exchange Hub”. The exhibition underway is one of its initiatives.
The Club’s support for this exhibition, like all its charity donations, is made possible by its unique integrated business model through which racing and wagering generate tax contributions, charity support and employment opportunities for the community.
