Chief Secretary Eric Chan Kwok-ki announced that eligible seniors can enjoy selected dishes for HK$25 from the first day of the Lunar New Year until the end of March through a special program tailored for the elderly.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Tuesday (Jan 14), Chan noted the program was inspired by his experience with elderly activities last year, highlighting that it is a collaborative effort between the administration, the business community, as well as the people aiming to provide care to the elders.
The program, in collaboration with five dining groups, including Maxims, Tai Hing, Café de Coral, Fairwood and Hong Kong McDonald’s, aims to offer vouchers benefiting over 50,000 seniors.
Chan added that the five participating diners will coordinate with the Social Welfare Department to reach out to about 214 district community centers, providing dining discounts to the elderly in need.
With a set of five vouchers, the elderly will be able to enjoy signature dishes, including baked pork chop rice, char siu rice with egg and Hainanese chicken, all for HK$25.
Chan hopes the program continues to evolve in providing better care, a reliable support system to the elderly and that more diners participate in the future.
