The government is set to bring together local communities and the legislature to strengthen developments on tourism and the silver economy, which are crucial for Hong Kong, Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration Warner Cheuk Wing-hing said on Wednesday.
Cheuk made his remarks after the 17th Ante Chamber Exchange Session, which addressed the development of the city’s tourism industry, promotion of art and creative industries, sports development, and enhancement of the silver economy.
He told reporters that the arrangement for the exchange session would be optimized by dividing the discussions into groups based on two panels, with each group co-chaired by the relevant secretary and the panel chairperson.
The government officials will also meet with reporters after the exchange session to facilitate smoother and more in-depth communication.
When asked about the progress regarding the development of the city’s silver economy, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau Ying-wah said two panel meetings have been held so far, and a clear plan will be formulated in the first quarter of this year.
Separately, Lawmaker Vincent Cheng Wing-shun expressed the hope that the government will hold more diverse test events at Kai Tak Sports Park to assess its capability to accommodate visitors and catering arrangements.
He expected that cultural events would attract more overnight visitors, also highlighting the importance of Hong Kong hosting eight events for the National Games in November.
