The operations of two red minibus (RMB) routes have been approved for conversion into green minibus (GMB) routes by the Transport Department (TD).
The routes — one from Sau Mau Ping (Hiu Kwong Street) to Jordan (Pak Hoi Street) and a circular route from Yuen Long (Park YOHO) to Yuen Long Station (Long Ming Street) — are expected to commence service in March.
The TD revealed that the operators have started preparing for the conversion to GMB route operations, including drawing up schedules, recruiting drivers under employment contracts, and applying for the Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme, etc.
The TD will consider the future direction of the scheme based on the implementation of the routes and feedback from the industry.
The government invited the operators of 11 RMB routes meeting the specified conditions to apply for direct conversion of their RMB routes into GMB route operations, and TD received a total of two applications during the application period of the RMB to GMB conversion scheme.
