The long-anticipated southern section of Shenzhen Metro Line 13, connecting Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint with the city’s Nanshan district, went into operation on Saturday after completing a three-month non-passenger trial run.
The checkpoint is one of the major channels between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. The new line is expected to expedite cross-border traveling and enhance communication between the two cities.
After crossing the checkpoint, travelers can walk for about a minute to reach the metro station, where they can transfer to various stations including Luo Hu, Futian, and Bao'an for a fare of three Chinese yuan. This is the second railway line in which MTR Corporation participates in operations in Shenzhen.
Signages directing travelers to the metro line can be clearly seen along the way from the Shenzhen Bay checkpoint, with uniform metro staffers assisting both inside and outside the paid areas.
Line 13 connects Shenzhen Bay Port Station to Gaoxinzhong Station, with a total of 16 stations. Seven stations on the southern section will first begin operating in the initial phase, running from 6.30 am to 11 pm.
