Hongkongers anticipate spending between HK$1,000 and HK$2,000 on dining and shopping while staying in the city during the Christmas holiday, as malls expect increased sales and foot traffic compared to last year.
Among those residents, some planned to spend half of their holiday in Hong Kong to meet friends for shopping, noting that the decorations in some shopping malls are beautiful.
They also considered watching the fireworks at West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade while traveling abroad for the rest of the holiday.
Meanwhile, certain elderly individuals expressed that the crowd and festive atmosphere in shopping malls are vibrant enough to encourage them to stay and spend in the city.
Fung Wing-yan, Sun Hung Kai Real Estate Agency's leasing department promotion manager, highlighted that the number of visitors to shopping malls has significantly increased since the resumption of multi-entry visas, with cross-border buses operating at increased frequency.
Fung mentioned that restaurants in malls reached a 100 percent attendance rate during the Winter Solstice, with a 10 percent rise in foot traffic compared to the same period last year. She added that sales of beauty product gift sets recorded a 5 percent increase.
Additionally, she expected that the jewelry and dining sectors would see a 10 percent increase due to the holiday season, with higher sales and foot traffic compared to last year.
