The Kai Tak Arena and Youth Sports Ground at the Kai Tak Sports Park conducted a stress test involving 12,000 participants on Sunday. The objective is to evaluate the response mechanisms in the event of emergencies as well as to assess the capacity of public transportation when both venues simultaneously host events.
For the first time, a designated drop-off area for bus and taxi passengers was arranged to test the transportation capacity. Around 1,000 individuals were arranged to walk from the park to the drop-off area, and six special bus routes and taxis were provided.
The stress test, which starts at 3.30 pm and ends at 7 pm, is expected to involve about 11,000 civil servants, a thousand Kai Tak residents, and members of youth uniformed groups. To leave the park, they will use various means of transportation.
Fire and emergency evacuation drills were also carried out in the stress test.
Secretary for Culture, Sports, and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui arrived at the park to assess crowd flow, transportation, and facility arrangements.
She acknowledged concerns from several coaches regarding the lighting and field markings following the Kai Tak Arena's first test run yesterday (Dec 7). She responded that the industry generally considers the venue to be of a high standard, potentially the best in the city.
Law emphasized that authorities aim to assess the venue's facilities through test events and will consider suggestions from all stakeholders as well as make adjustments if necessary.
She added that the park will hold some more tests, and the guest list will be announced as soon as it is finalized.
