The Kai Tak Arena at the Kai Tak Sports Park will conduct its first test event on Saturday (Dec 7), featuring two basketball games with an audience of 2,000.
Commissioner for Sports George Tsoi Kin-pan noted that the games will kick off at 3 pm and 5 pm, respectively. Ticket holders can enter the Arena starting at 1.30 pm, and there will be no on-site ticket sales.
He urged attendees to use public transportation and walk a few minutes to the venue, as no parking will be available on-site.
Tsoi emphasized that long-handled umbrellas, drinks, food, and empty bottles are not allowed inside the stadium. Individuals without backpacks or handbags can use a designated fast-track entry.
He also mentioned that a test concert will be held at the venue on December 20, with an expected audience of 5,500.
The Strategic Planning Director of KTSP Tang King-shing stated that the Kai Tak Arena can accommodate a maximum of 10,000 individuals as a multipurpose stadium designed to accommodate eight major sports.
He added that 80 percent of the seats could be moved to provide a larger space equivalent to nearly 40 badminton courts.
Separately, a stress test will be held at Park on Sunday (Dec 8).
Authorities said the exercises would be held simultaneously at the Kai Tak Arena and the Youth Sports Ground, and public transportation including MTR, franchised buses and taxis will participate.
