The government has presented development proposals for approximately 127 hectares of Ngau Tam Mei in the Northern Metropolis, which includes a university town and an integrated teaching hospital that provides teaching, training and research facilities.
The plan features a UniTown covering about 46 hectares, an integrated hospital on nine hectares of land, and a comprehensive residential community near a railway station to create a "15-minute neighborhood."
The UniTown will accommodate the third medical school and encourage collaborations among local and international institutions, while the new hospital will provide 3,000 beds and support teaching and research.
The residential area is planned to include shopping and recreational facilities, with public transport interchanges planned to improve connectivity.
The Development Bureau said the site formation and infrastructure works could commence in 2027 as soon as possible and expected the first population intake to take place from 2034 onwards to dovetail with the commissioning of the Northern Link Main Line.
