At 10 am, Toraji was estimated to be about 300 kilometers southeast of Hong Kong and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 12 kilometers per hour across the northern part of the South China Sea.
It is expected that Toraji will skirt within around 200 kilometers to the south of the territory on Thursday.
The weather watchdog said it will assess the need to issue higher Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals depending on the intensity of Toraji at that time, the distance of its associated gale winds from the Pearl River Estuary and the change in local wind conditions.
