An incident occurred in Tuen Mun when a sedan was captured on a dashcam video running a red light and narrowly missing a baby stroller. The video, which has since gone viral, sparked widespread criticism of the driver's reckless behavior.
The incident took place around 1 pm on October 30 (Wed), as a BMW sedan traveled along the slow lane of the Tai Lam section on Castle Peak Road towards the Gold Coast. The car approached the pedestrian crossing outside Siu Sau Tsuen and the BMW continued at speed despite the red traffic light, nearly colliding with a pedestrian who was pushing a stroller across the road.
The pedestrian managed to pull the stroller back in time while the BMW driver swerved to avoid hitting them and fortunately prevented an accident.
The man and woman in another car from which the footage was recorded were audibly shocked and screamed as they witnessed the near-miss. The pedestrian, clearly shaken by the incident, quickly retreated to the sidewalk and did not attempt to cross again.
After running the red light, the BMW was seen driving along the express lane before stopping at a bus stop nearby, where the video concluded.
The BMW's license plate, which begins with the letters "FU," indicates that the vehicle is registered outside Hong Kong, possibly from the mainland, and is used in Hong Kong for temporary or short-term purposes, as per the "Road Traffic Regulations."
Following the video's release online, many netizens expressed their outrage, with some describing the driver's actions as akin to "deliberate murder." Calls for revoking the driver's license were prevalent among the comments.
The uploader of the clip reported the incident to the authorities, although concerns were raised about the enforcement of the law given the vehicle's non-local registration. Some netizens stated that they hope for a strict response from the authorities to this reckless endangerment of lives.
