This request comes in the wake of the announcement that the China CITIC Bank International 15th Asian Dragon Boat Championships will be held from October 11 to 13.
The association is confronted with significant expenses as they need to transport lighter barges for the event, raising concerns about their capacity to host the World Championships in 2027 without increased government aid and better coordination between departments.
Chung pointed out that although Hong Kong is well-known for its proficiency in organizing water sports events, the city lacks a permanent venue for international competitions.
He criticized the practice of constructing temporary venues only when events occur and emphasized the extensive resources needed for training and competition.
The chairman highlighted the necessity for government-provided direction and scheduling, particularly given the shared use of areas such as the Kwun Tong Promenade, which is also utilized by ships. He stressed that such planning is essential for the development of water sports in Hong Kong.
