The Law Society of Hong Kong issued a statement on Thursday expressing concern over widely circulated social media posts targeting immigration law firms in England and Wales following the recent far-right anti-immigration riots in the UK.
It strongly condemns any form of violence and emphasizes that all parties involved in any case are entitled to legal representation, and the lawyers representing each party have the same responsibility to ensure the proper protection of their client's rights and interests irrespective of the clients' race, color, ethnic or national origins, sex or religious or political beliefs.
The Society also stated that any attempt to smear the reputation of law firms or lawyers representing clients who are not welcome to certain individuals, and to threaten their safety with violence, is an affront to the rule of law and the independence of the legal profession.
