Commuters were pleasantly surprised by the seamless resumption of regular service on the Kwun Tong Line of the MTR on the morning of Monday, following a 28-hour infrastructure upgrade the previous day.
There was a suspension of train service between Prince Edward and Ho Man Tin stations on the Kwun Tong Line on Sunday (July 28) to carry out essential upgrade works, including replacing old cable power hangers.
According to the MTR, the intensive maintenance project was completed as scheduled, with staff conducting thorough inspections and safety tests using non-passenger trains.
"I was aware of the service suspension yesterday, so I decided not to take the MTR," said Leung, a commuter. "But I'm impressed that the service resumed so smoothly this morning - it's really efficient."
At Prince Edward station, an orderly passenger flow and stable train frequencies of around 2 minutes were observed on the platform headed towards Whampoa, the terminus of the Kwun Tong Line.
In contrast, the train platform for the Tsuen Wan Line, heading in the opposite direction, saw a gradual increase in passenger numbers after 8 a.m., noticeably higher than those on the Kwun Tong Line.
Commuter Joanne, who was waiting for a Tsuen Wan Line train, praised the MTR's proactive communication regarding the service disruption.
"I wasn't in Hong Kong yesterday, but I saw that the MTR had released the information well in advance, which was very convenient for commuters to plan their journeys," she said. "The train service seems unaffected today, and the efficiency is commendable."
She also acknowledged the need for regular infrastructure maintenance in Hong Kong's public transport system, expressing understanding for the upgrade project.
