Luohu Port redevelopment plan not include East Rail Line extension into Shenzhen, says Security Bureau

The security chief said Wednesday the modification works for the Luohu Port is limited to the Shenzhen side, and there is no plan to extend MTR East Rail Line into the Luohu district.

The immigration clearance arrangement at the Lo Wu Control Point on Hong Kong side will remain unchanged after the renovation work, Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung added.

His comment comes a month after mainland authorities said to set their eyes on getting the East Rail Line to go across the border and implementing a seamless colocation arrangement at Luohu port after the port redevelopment.

Tang noted that the scope of modification works of the Luohu Port will not involve the operation of Lo Wu Control Point, and the colocation arrangement will not be implemented at this stage.

According to Tang, the renovation project is primarily focused on eliminating safety hazards, improving port's functions, and upgrading inspection facilities as well as enhancing the port's clearance capabilities and the city's gateway image.
