The trial for the theft cases was scheduled to begin on November 19, 2015, but the suspect Alex Kwong Kong-chi went missing in August 2015. The court then issued an arrest warrant.
Kwong, 28, had been accused of stealing necklaces, bracelets, pendants, bullion, and gold pellets from seven people between May 2013 and January 2015.
He pleaded guilty to six counts of theft and one count of failing to surrender to custody as should have been appointed at the District Court this morning.
Passing sentence, the judge said Kwong committed the crime with premeditation. However, considering his guilty plea and the fact that he has fully compensated the victim, the judge handed down a 42-month jail sentence.
Meanwhile, Kwong’s hearing regarding the murder of Choi, with two of his relatives also standing trial, is gearing up to be transferred to a higher court.
