The ImmD headquarters opened on Po Yap Road in Tseung Kwan O today, with the Director of Immigration, Benson Kwok Joon-fung, stating that the operation of the new office is relatively smoother and has around 400 people using the office service up until 10 am.
He also expects that the new headquarters will serve about 6,500 people per day, which would be similar to the previous headquarters.
He said that as the new headquarters is put into operation, he is confident that the Immigration Department can provide better services to the public.
Kwok stated that the new headquarters is in a location with convenient transport and is just a few minutes walk away from MTR stations. He believes that residents will become used to it swiftly and will gladly head to Tsueng Kwan O to make use of it.
The chief pointed out that, other than submitting their applications in person, many services can also be conducted online, such as visas, birth registration, etc.
When asked about the relocation date of the Registration of Persons Offices
on Hong Kong Island, the chief said that there are currently no other offices on Hong Kong Island, so the office remains open in Wan Chai.
He pointed out that the Wan Chai Headquarters will be demolished after 2026, and the department is working hard to identify a suitable area to relocate the Registration of Persons Offices.
