The Hong Kong Taxi Council introduced on Wednesday a three-month courtesy campaign. The campaign will see courtesy ambassadors stationed at some of the city’s busiest taxi stands to distribute leaflets and souvenirs to passengers and drivers.
The campaign will run from June 6 to August 27 and is in line with the Tourism Board's city-wide hospitality drive.
The Taxi Council's chairman Ryan Wong Cheuk-pong said he expected taxi drivers to understand the importance of courtesy and improve communication with passengers.
He said the leaflets will remind drivers to respect passengers and assist wheelchair users, while passengers will be reminded to fasten their seat belts and refrain from verbally abusing drivers.
The leaflet will introduce famous local attractions to passengers, providing them with a hotline to report their lost items, to make passengers feel welcomed, said Wong.
Wong said university students will be hired as courtesy ambassadors, with the ambassadors to undergo training to understand the purpose of the campaign and the services the taxi trade will provide.
