Video footage has captured the moment a taxi drove on the sidewalk in Happy Valley, with pedestrians in close proximity.
The video came amid calls online to “retaliate” against taxi drivers for their “undercover Uber ops” by actively flagging their wrongdoings to authorities.
The 8-second video showed the taxi driving forward on the sidewalk, with pedestrians forced to move out of its path.
The video has sparked fury among netizens, also causing a stir on social media as people slammed the taxi driver for neglecting the safety of pedestrians and other road users.
According to Hong Kong law, a person who dangerously drives a motor vehicle on the road commits an offense. Offenders on conviction under indictment will be liable to a level 4 fine and imprisonment for three years; while those on summary conviction will be liable to a level 3 fine and imprisonment for 12 months.
Meanwhile, a person convicted of dangerous driving is liable to a maximum fine of HK$25,000, imprisonment for three years and disqualification from driving.
