(Video) Power line falls on minibus in Yuen Long

A high-voltage cable fell on a minibus in Yuen Long on Tuesday, denting the roof of the vehicle and causing a lamp post to collapse. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident.

The minibus driver called the police at around 12.29 pm, saying the vehicle was hit by a fallen power line while he was driving along the Castle Peak Road Yuen Long section.

Sources said some workers were carrying out maintenance work on a pylon when the cable loosened and fell. A lamp post was also struck by the cable and collapsed, blocking one of the lanes on the highway.

The Transport Department said the only lane on the flyover slip road leading from Castle Peak Road - Tam Mi to Castle Peak Road - Yuen Long is closed to all traffic due to the incident, while a section of the lanes on Castle Peak Road - Yuen Long near Kam Tin Road is closed to all traffic.

Responding to the incident, CLP Power said an overhead cable with no current fell when one of its contractors was conducting cable replacement work in Yuen Long.

As one of the high voltage overhead lines was affected, some 68 households in the district experienced temporary disruption to their power supply.

The electricity giant apologized for the inconvenience caused and added that the investigation into the cause is ongoing.
